L’autostrada A4 attraversa completamente la pianura Padana, ignorando sin dall’inizio il corso del Po. Taglia in due il Piemonte, la Lombardia e il Veneto, lasciando sopra di se i grandi laghi italiani: Maggiore, Como e Garda. Peschiera del Garda, antica città murata e completamente circondata dall’acqua ci aspetta, come fece con gli Unni, i Barbari, le signorie Lombarde e la Repubblica Veneta. Ma non è aria di guerra da tempo, le mura oramai sono un lontano ricordo di un’Europa guerrafondaia e tumultuosa. Ora a Peschiera splende il sole e il lago, la cinta muraria e il parco divertimenti la rendono meta perfetta per i weekend primaverili ed estivi.
The A4 highway splits in two Piemonte, Lombardta and Veneto leaving above itself the big Italian lakes: Lago Maggiore, Lago di Como, Lago di Garda. Peschiera del Garda, an antique town fully surrounded by fortified walls and water is awaiting us, as it did with Huns, Barbars, Lombardian lordships and the Venetian Republic. There is no war in the air now though, and fortified walls are a memorandum of a wormonger and turbulent post-medieval Europe. Now in Peschiera the sun is shining and the lake, the walls and the big amusement park nearby make it a perfect destination for spring-summer weekends.
Dal 2013, per una sola settimana l’anno, c’è un altro motivo per visitare Peschiera: il SO.GA, Southern Gardasee. Ad organizzarlo sono le Valvole Piegate: un gruppo attivo dai primi anni del Duemila che ha segnato la scena italiana VAG. Hanno girato mezza Europa, guidato cento auto, seguito mille eventi stringendo amicizie e accrescendo la propria fama. Dall’anno scorso hanno deciso di lanciarsi nel vuoto: go big or go home. Da semplici osservatori si sono cimentati nell’ardua impresa di organizzare un evento di livello europeo dal nulla.
Since 2013, for a single week a year, there is one more reason to visit Peschiera: the SO.GA, Southern Gardasee. The Valvole Piegate are the promoters: a group which has been active since the early 00s leaving a strong mark on the Italian VAG scene. They have visited half European countries, driven hundreds of cars, followed thousands of events making friends and extending their fame. Last year they decided to take a jump into the void: organize a brand new, Europe-acclaimed, high quality event. Go big or go home.
Il Southern Gardasee si è da subito affermato come una solida realtà, nata e sviluppatasi grazie alle idee, alla voglia di primeggiare e all’organizzazione di Filippo, Fabrizio e soci. Il Forte Papa, ampia roccaforte medievale, è stata confermata come location ufficiale, rappresentando il giusto mix di ospitalità, impatto visivo e senso di intimità dell’evento.
The Southern Gardasee quickly established itself as a strong reality thanks to the ambition of Filippo, Fabrizio and partners. The Forte Papa, a big medieval fortress, was confirmed as the official location because of its ability to convey ospitality, visual impact and sense of intimacy at the same time.
Le Valvole, da tempo frequentatori abituali del Wörthersee GTI Treffen, giunti alla seconda edizione hanno deciso di completare la “Wörthizzazione” dell’evento italiano. La location “only VAG” utilizzata lo scorso anno è stata completata da varie zone espositive: dalla piazza principale di Peschiera al classico distributore della Eni, auto di qualsiasi brand hanno girato in massima libertà. Il lago lo ha messo a disposizione Madre Natura, deo gratia: difficile procurarsene uno su commissione!
The Valvole, frequent attenders of the Wörthersee GTI Treffen, at their second edition decided to make the italian event more “Wörth-like”. The official, “only VAG” location has been supported by the main square in Peschiera and the nearly Eni gas station: cars from every brand were rolling from one place to another in freedom. Mother Nature offered the lake instead… It wouldn’t have been easy to obtain one on a commission basis!
Il weekend 31 maggio – 1° giugno ha visto il mercurio dei termometri muoversi freneticamente verso l’alto. Il torrido caldo ha scoraggiato i partecipanti ad oziare staticamente in un unico punto di ritrovo, spingendoli a cercare refrigerio muovendosi da una location all’altra ed ammirando lo scenario di Peschiera dai finestrini spalancati.
The 31st May- 1st June weekend saw the quicksilver in thermometers quickly arising. The torrid weather led participants to find somewhere cool drivin around frome one location to the next one, admiring the beautiful Peschiera panorama from wide open windows.
Le selezioni, rese necessarie per ottenere un ottimo livello qualitativo in un ristretto contesto spazio-temporale, sono iniziate durante l’inverno, ammirando i migliori progetti già realizzati e incuriosendosi seguendo i WIP più particolari. Il risultato degli sforzi sono ben espressi dalla folta schiera dei partecipanti provenienti da Austria, Germania, Svizzera, Francia, Olanda, Belgio, Inghilterra. Persino una coppia, fresca di matrimonio al Wörthersee, si è spinta in Veneto dalla lontana Russia con amore.
Selections were indispensable to keep the quality level high, while dealing with a limited amount of space and time: during the winter, time was spent working on cars to get them ready for this goal. Organizing efforts were paid off, judging from the cars attending the event: people came from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Holland, Belgium, England. There was even a young couple, just married at the Wörthersee, which came all the way to Peschiera from Russia with love.
La scena VAG da sempre si concentra su un numero relativamente ristretto di veicoli, dunque spesso cerca esclusività scegliendo ricercati colori custom tra interni, esterni e dettagli meccanici.
The VAG scene has always been focusing on a relatively narrow number of cars, so often exclusivity is sought after through refined custom colors for interiors, exterior or mechanical details.
Tuttavia il rispetto dei canoni stilistici stabiliti dai designer di Wolfsburg dona alle automobili personalizzate presenti al So.Ga un senso di coerenza con l’epoca di realizzazione che le caratterizza, rendendole veri manifesti della commistione di tuning, conservazione e restauro nella scelta dei dettagli e macro-caratteristiche: cerchi racing, assetti e colori OEM.
On another side, following lines and colors accurately chosen by designers in Wolfsburg, gave to custom cars which were present at the show a sense of coherence to the years in which they were produced, making them true manifests of OEM+; a balance between customization, preservation and restoration from the smallest details to mail features: racing wheels, OEM colors, and suspension built to reach the ground.
La scelta del cerchio, in questa corrente di personalizzazione, spesso rischia di essere uno dei pochi elementi di distinzioni tra le varie realizzazioni: per questo è più che comprensibile la ricerca dell’innovazione rivolgendosi a raffinati brand emergenti o reinterpretando grandi classici scomponibili.
Wheels choice, in this customization trend, sometimes can be the only evident sign of differentiation between detailed builds: that’s why the scene keeps evolving, pointing out to refined, emergent brands or reinterpretating classical split wheels through bizarre and intriguing finishes.
In una scena dove cerchi ed assetto costituiscono l’impatto principale di una realizzazione, la differenza tra un progetto rapido ed un lavoro certosino emerge dai dettagli. La cura nei veicoli è spesso maniacale: precisi rivestimenti in pelle cuciti su misura da abili artigiani, interni dalla forte evocazione racing con componenti prestazionali realizzati dal pieno, curiosi e rari accessori “young timer” simboli di epoche lontane, sospensioni regolabili accorciate e ritarate con precisione, impianti airride esposti come opere d’arte della fluidomeccanica.
In a scene in which wheels and suspension make up for the overall appearance of the car, the difference between a quick project and a long, detailed one is in the details. Often the care with which cars were built is stunning: precise leather seats sewn by experienced artisans, racing-inspired interiors with high performance, track-ready parts, curious and rare “young timer” accessories, shortened and rebuilt suspensions, airride systems exhibited as fluid mechanics jewelry.
Nonostante sia stato un raduno dichiaratamente estetico, è stato piacevole imbattersi in vani e motori fortemente preparati. Motori V8, V6, VR6, TFSI, 16v e 20v, frequentemente sovralimentati, hanno dimostrato che a molti interessa muoversi velocemente accompagnati da sounds che hanno caratterizzato la scena VAG globale. La luce riflette le cromature, per i cavalli sarà la brezza notturna a suonare la sveglia.
While most of the VAG scene strongly focused on aesthetics, it was great to see high performance and well cared engines. V8s, V6s, VR6s, TFSIs, 16v’s and 20v’s, often supercharged, show how many VAG enthusiasts also focus on driving fast, enjoying well know exhaust notes. Sun was shining on chrome, night breeze instead was waking up some horsepower.
Il pubblico si gode lo spettacolo dopo lunghi mesi invernali passati in attesa di parti, montaggi ed eventi. Stremati dal caldo e da lunghe trasferte, molti trovano conforto sotto la risicata ombra degli alberi, altri si limitano a sprofondare in comode sedie pieghevoli. Tutti si divertono a osservare le macchine degli altri ragazzi, in cerca di ispirazione, complimentandosi coi proprietari o suggerendo migliorie.
Spectators were finally enjoying the show after long winter months spent waiting for parts. Worn out by hot weather and long travels, many found relief sinking in foldable chairs under trees’ shadows. Everyone had a great time watching builds seeking for inspiration, complementing with owners and suggesting improvements.
Il Sothern Gardasee nasce come meeting di eccellenza ed elevata qualità: tuttavia l’aria che si respira in Peschiera è più quella di una festa, a cui possono partecipare non solo showcar allestite nei minimi dettagli ma anche daily rides che sfoggiano un’invidiabile stato di conservazione e uno stance d’effetto.
The Southern Gardasee was born as an excellence and high quality meeting: at the same time you can breathe a party atmosphere, where not only trailer queens are accepted, but also daily rides with proper stance.
L’intera produzione postbellica della Volkswagen era degnamente rappresentata a Peschiera del Garda in un’unione di personalità, stili e nazioni vincente. Seguendo il percorso tracciato dall’evoluzione meccanica della casa di Wolfsburg erano esposti modelli di vetture che hanno cambiato il corso storico: dalle prime aircooled, alle prime berline sportive disegnate dal nostro connazionale Giugiaro, fino alle recenti e tecnologiche eredi.
The whole VW production since the postwar period has been worthily represented at the SO.GA, in a winning cohesion of personalities, styles and nations. Following the path traced by mechanical evolution in Wolfsburg, models that changed car history were present: from the early aircooled, to the first sport sedans drawn by the italian pencil of Giugiaro, to their recent and high-tech heirs.
L’aver selezionato e invitato molte auto straniere è stata, già dalla prima edizione, un’assoluta novità proposta dal So.Ga: è opinione comune di tutti i partecipanti di aver assistito ad un evento unico nel suo genere. Dopo innumerevoli ore trascorse in auto a macinare chilometri e dietro a uno schermo vagliando annunci o cercando informazioni, osservare e sentirsi parte di un grande movimento europeo ci rende orgogliosi, e continua a spronarci per ottenere il meglio dalle nostre auto e dai nostri eventi. Ancora una volta, arrivederci Peschiera!
Selecting and inviting many foreigners was, since the first edition, an innovation: everybody was conscious to visit a one-of-a-kind event on our soil. After many hours spent in our cars stacking up kilometers and after a screen examining classifieds and build threads, watching and feeling parts of a big european movement makes us proud, and spurs us to squeeze the best from our cars and our events. Once again, farewell Peschiera!
